"On the ground floor of a centuries-old building that climbs high into the terraced-Amsterdam skyline is Tales & Spirits – Amsterdam’s most decorated cocktail bar. Drawing on the heritage of both the building and the cocktail world, Tales & Spirits is a small bar, packed with antiques, vintage posters and bar-world paraphernalia. This collection, which extends to the private bar upstairs and the bottle shop next door, is the combined obsession of owners Lydia Soedadi and Boudewijn Mesritz. The cocktails at Tales & Spirits have a classical foundation too, arriving to the bar’s collection of small wooden tables in exquisite vintage glassware. The signature serves are aplenty – try the Roald Dahl-inspired Gobblefunk, with bourbon, Earl Grey and ‘crodscollop puree’ – and there’s even a section on the Old Fashioned, numbering 11 iterations. The Nutcracker – 15-year-old rum, hazelnut-honey syrup, Fee Bros black walnut bitters and honeycomb – is as delicious as it sounds. "
